Polar Power Inc. has been providing DC generators to the US military since 1989. We have specialized in custom power systems requiring small quantities with fast delivery. Our customers need the lightest weight, most compact size, with the highest reliability to meet their mission goals. We gained the reputation of being able to provide a solution where others can’t.
We have provided systems operating at: the highest elevations to underwater, the warmest and coldest climates and from desert sand to marine environments. We have yet to encounter a military specification that we could not meet using our standard off the shelf products as a foundation.

Raytheon Hy-DRA Vehicle
In this application Polar Power Inc. is supplying DC generators to Raytheon for its Hy-DRA vehicle. Installed on this vehicle is the Polar 8340P-40415 generator with output power of 20 kW at 320 Vdc nominal. Crew have the option of operating all electric in stealth mode then switching over to the polar DC generator for long range cruising.
DC Ground Power Unit
The fact that the U-2 aircraft is still being used in critical missions today and has superseded the SR71 is testimony of a marvelous engineering feat performed many decades ago.
Polar is proud to have contributed its engineering and production skills in support of this mission.
Polar designed and manufactured a DC Ground Power Unit for the U-2 that combines power and system diagnostics. Supplied from this cart are 500 amps of 28 Vdc and 3 phase 400 Hz power. What is unique about this cart is its ability to detect wiring and sub systems’ electrical faults. It has been credited with saving pilots’ lives.
Airships
On this LM Airship Polar provided its 6250 Alternator and controls which were mated to a custom built lightweight engine.
Military Auxiliary Power Units
Presently there are a number of military programs worldwide testing Polar APUs for their mobile requirements. Over the past 25 years Polar has accumulated considerable experience in providing APUs to meet stringent requirements calling for high temperatures, EMI, HAEMP, low ripple/high electrical quality, desert and marine environments.
Pictured below is a test of our model 6255 alternator with a Lombardini 1003 operating at 28 Vdc and 400 amps. Ambient air temperature is 50° C with a solar simulated load of 1 kW per square meter. Surface temperature exceed 86 C.
